She was 90 years old. She was born on October 18, 1923, to the late Cletus A. and Bernice (Lafayette) Ward on their farm in Albee Township. She had a long career as a registered nurse, attending St. Mary Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1944. She went to the University of Chicago to obtain a degree in Nursing Education. During World War II, she served as a 1st LT in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps stationed in the Philippines. She was honorably discharged in 1946. Following her career in the service, she was employed at St. Mary’s, Saginaw General & Covenant Hospitals serving as a childbirth educator and Natural Family Planning Practitioner for the Diocese of Saginaw. In 1976 she received the Honored Alumnae award presented by St. Mary’s Cathedral High School. She maintained her Nursing license for sixty years. Her husband William L. Ruth, Sr. and son, James M. Ruth predeceased her. She is survived by her children; sons William L. Jr. (Paula); Timothy P. and Robert M. (Vicki); and her daughter Nancy Ruth Barone; granddaughters Katie and Maria; four brothers. Jim, Dan, Dick and Dale Ward; three sisters, Patricia Hyzer, Carol Ward, Sally Tarbox and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and son, she was also predeceased by her husbands’ parents Leonard and Beatrice Ruth, her son-in-law Randall L. Tidmore, and three brothers, Bill, Tom and Jack Ward. Honoring Marian’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private entombment at Mount Olivet Mausoleum.
