Her parents were Thomas Newberry and his second wife Jane ___. Thomas immigrated in 1634 from Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset, England to Dorchester. Thomas's will dated 12 Dec 1635 and proven on an unknown date does not list his children by name. "On 10 Oct 1640, the town of Windsor granted land to seven of Thomas's children including "Hannah Nuberry" [Windsor LR 1:2-8]." "The marriages of the two youngest daughters, Rebecca to John Russell and Hannah to Thomas Hanford, are stated confidently in secondary sources, but without evidence [Newberry Gen 46 (by J. Gardner Bartlett); NEHGR 60:383; Wethersfield Hist 2:594-95; Stevens-Miller Anc 487]." The author notes: "We have treated them here as if these identifications are correct, but more research is required." Thomas1 HANFORD (Jeffrey), born probably in AlverĀdiscott, Devon, in 1623, died in Norwalk, Conn., about December 1693. He married, first, about 1653, HANNAH NEWBERRY, born perhaps in Dorchester, about 1633, died by 1661, apparently without issue, daughter of Thomas and Jane (___) Newberry. He married, secondly, in Norwalk, 22 Oct. 1661, MARY (MILES) INCE, who died in New Haven, Conn., 12 Sept. 1730, aged "100," daughter of Judge Richard Miles, and widow of Jonathan Ince.* (*Mary Miles m. 12 Dec. 1654, New Haven, Jonathan Ince, who d. by 1661, prob. on a voyage to England. Child (Ince), b. New Haven, Jonathan, b. 27 June 1656.)"
