- Elon E. Young, 89, of Geneseo, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, atGeneseo Good Samaritan Village.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday,Aug. 11, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. JohnWohlrabe will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo,where military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post No.5083. Family and friends of Elon may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday atthe Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the ElonYoung Memorial Fund.
Elon was born on July 3, 1920, in rural Geneseo, the son of John W.and Lydia Ahnert Young. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Armyduring World War II, serving in North Africa in heavy artillery andwas a recipient of the Purple Heart. Elon was united in marriage toEvelyn Jens on Oct. 10, 1948, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo.
He was an independent truck driver for many years. Elon was also alifetime farmer and livestock producer farming in the Andover andCambridge areas. Elon was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church,the American Legion, Henry County Farm Bureau and the Henry CountyPork Producers. He enjoyed gardening and researching trucks.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Vickie (Dr. Jim)Moriarity, South Bend, Ind., Julie (Andrew) Schaser, Waukesha, Wis.;two sons, Craig (Sally) Young, New York, N.Y., Mark (Jenny) Young,Geneseo; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Beatrice(Joe) DeGeeter, Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents andtwo sisters.
