- Joseph N. Holsey, 87, of Geneseo, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30th, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo Chapel, 225 E. Park St. Rev. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, with military services at the graveside. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Ambulance Service.
Joe was born April 17, 1921 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Amos G. and Edress D. Garrison Holsey. He was educated in the Wichita area. Joe received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in Peoria. He service in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. His marriage to Fern Louise Young took place on June 30, 1943 in Longview, Texas. She died January 11, 2008.
In his early years, Joe was a baker and dairy route salesman in the Geneseo and Quad City area. He then worked as a custodian for the Geneseo School District, retiring in 1983. His memberships include the First Lutheran Church of Geneseo, the Shearer Post 350, American Legion, Geneseo, and the Don Cherry Post 5083, VFW, Geneseo.
Surviving are two daughters, Margaret �Midge� Mariman, and Barbara Holsey, a son Richard Holsey, six grandchildren and spouses, Sheri Butterfield, Noel Kicksey, Gretchen and Kevin Britt, Brian and Tiffany Williams, Michael Mariman, Eric and Jessica Mariman, and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mary Breeden. His parents, his wife, and two sons, Frederick and David, and a brother, Dale, preceded him in death.
