353 | Joseph N. Holsey, 87, of Geneseo, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30th, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo Chapel, 225 E. Park St. Rev. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, with military services at the graveside. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Ambulance Service. Joe was born April 17, 1921 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Amos G. and Edress D. Garrison Holsey. He was educated in the Wichita area. Joe received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bradley University in Peoria. He service in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. His marriage to Fern Louise Young took place on June 30, 1943 in Longview, Texas. She died January 11, 2008. In his early years, Joe was a baker and dairy route salesman in the Geneseo and Quad City area. He then worked as a custodian for the Geneseo School District, retiring in 1983. His memberships include the First Lutheran Church of Geneseo, the Shearer Post 350, American Legion, Geneseo, and the Don Cherry Post 5083, VFW, Geneseo. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret �Midge� Mariman, and Barbara Holsey, a son Richard Holsey, six grandchildren and spouses, Sheri Butterfield, Noel Kicksey, Gretchen and Kevin Britt, Brian and Tiffany Williams, Michael Mariman, Eric and Jessica Mariman, and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mary Breeden. His parents, his wife, and two sons, Frederick and David, and a brother, Dale, preceded him in death. | Holsey, Joseph Newton (I0909)

354 | Kuuleialoha Bechert Lay, 83, of Haiku, died April 30, 2009, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kahului, with a service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at noon at Maui Veterans' Cemetery. Ballard Family Mortuary is assisting with the arrangements. The family requests aloha attire. Mrs. Lay was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Lahaina. She was a former kumu hula. She is survived by her husband, Owen E. Lay; four sons, Guy Roger (Nani) Lay, Grant H. (Ruth) Lay, Ivan B. Lay and Angus E. Coming to America in1849 she lived for a time in Bureau county and in 1853 moved to Henrycounty which has since been her home. She was the mother of eightchildren of whom five survive. They are John Young of Hebron, Neb.;James Young, of Munson township; Mrs. Anna Ensey, of Munson township;Mrs. Maggie Souers, of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Mrs. mary Ruxton, ofEldora, Iowa. The husband and father died May 17, 1894, eleven yearsago. Mrs. Young became a member of the Presbyterian church when ayoung girl in Scotland, and on coming to this country renewed heraffliation with the same denomination by letter, and retained hermembership to the close of her long and useful life. In July 1855 the came west and settled in Edford township. one of the early pioneers enduring hardships with great patience. In 1865 they moved to Osco township where they made their home. Her husband and two oldest sons have preceded her to the better land. To mourn her loss she leaves five sons and two daughters, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson and a host of friends. The funeral services were held at Grace church Ocso, of which she had been a member since infancy, Rev. Wm. Purce, rector, officiating.
